Our rule for vacation is this: we go completely wireless.

No computer games. No Nintendo DS or X-Box 360. No internet. No RP or Warhammer. No books on any of the above topics.

We will spend the next five days being the two of us, without pixellated distractions. We'll have to have actual conversations, and not about the new thing he wants for his computer, or who I found on Facebook. If we want alone time, we will pack books- books we can discuss with each other, not books that shut the other person out.

We will talk about life, dreams, travel, the future, our house (whenever it happens), our children (whenever they happen), and our plans. Our plans, for our life, together.

And if in that time we haven't remembered exactly why we needed to be married, why we were so thrilled and compelled and aching to become a lifelong team, then... well, then things have changed more than I thought.

We used to be so good at this. The all-night talking, the giggling under the covers, the connection of thinking the exact same thing at the same time. And one way or another, wires or pixels or stress or distractions have come between us.

And I'll be damned if I go along quietly. I miss my best friend, and I'm willing to fight for him.
