A Maiden's Tale
2006-02-13 - 9:53 a.m.

Feeling: whimsical
Listening to: Poe - Could've Gone Mad
Reading/Watching: Beauty, by Robin McKinley

Fair maiden wakes up, and once again, the hairy ogre has imprisoned her, wrapping arms and one leg around her person, so that she is incapable of moving, much less escaping.

She struggles for freedom, feebly, and his grip only tightens as the ogre awakens. He grins, mumbles unintelligible words, and gathers her closer, which at this point seems scientifically impossible to the maiden. She flails, pleading, "I have to get up. It's boring, just lying here."

The ogre opens one green-rimmed-brown eye and growls, "Can't you just cuddle a little while?"

"No. I have to pee."

Then the ogre begins to attack: thousands of tiny kisses all over the maiden's face and hands, and she shrieks in horror, for saliva is acidic, and surely the repetitive application of it will melt her face off. She protests, and the ogre merely laughs and continues his onslaught.

In desperation, the maiden exhales a noisy blast of her deadly Morning Breath, and as the ogre recoils, his imprisoning limbs loosen, and the clever girl nimbly slips downward, out of his grasp, and races to freedom.

Then, once in the bath chamber, she is faced with a difficult dilemma: sometimes, one good Kiss of True Love will restore the ogre back to being a prince, and His Majesty will rise from the bed and help her make breakfast. But that would require brushing her teeth, thus abolishing the off-putting Morning Breath. But did she dare risk falling into the clutches of the ogre once more, without the protection of her trusty Breath Weapon?

So she stands, awash with indecision: should she forego the toothpaste, remain armed in case of surprise attack, but make reviving the prince impossible, or eradicate her Morning Breath, and potentially put herself back into the grasp of the ogre, helplessly minty-fresh?
