Just Nod and Smile
2005-08-13 - 10:28 p.m.

Feeling: bridal
Listening to: Blue October - Balance Beam
Reading/Watching: scary bridal things

Things you learn while wedding dress shopping:

1) You are actually much shorter than you think you are (i.e. every skirt requires four-inch heels).
2) You are actually much fatter than you think you are (i.e. designers hate you).
3) You are actually much poorer than you think you are (i.e. what was once the reasonable price for a used car is now the reasonable price for a long white dress).
4) Mom's habit of loving the dress, then checking the price tag and suddenly finding problems with it is still in full-force.
5) Everything expensive, according to the sales lady, looks "elegant," "stunning," or "amazing" on you.
6) Tiaras are of the rare breed of accessories that actually do look good on everyone (even if you feel stupid putting it on and stand there waiting for someone to dump a bucket of pig's blood on your head).
7) You don't know how a dress is going to look until you're actually wearing it. What looks ravishing on a stick insect will not necessarily work for women in possession of hips.
8) The word 'wedding' in the description of an item will increase the price by 50%. The word 'bridal' will increase the price by 100%.

After being immersed in wedding discussions with my parents about every single detail in the entire world, I am like mon coeur after he has just played WoW for 12 hours straight. It's all one-track conversation, and babbling in code. The best that friends and family can do is nod and smile while their eyes glaze over.

This means my journal entries may become more scarce while I curb the urge to post color-swatches, debate the merits of chiffon vs. satin, and list the prices of buffet vs. sit-down dinner.

Until the sickness passes, I encourage you to explore the wonders of Web Sudoku. It is vastly more entertaining than looking at swatches.
