The Feminine Complex
2007-06-09 - 11:08 p.m.

Feeling: reciprocal
Listening to: Tori Amos - Precious Things
Reading/Watching: last 20 pages of Forever in Blue

Hey, remember that time
when I stood so strong
My voice spoke, and it echoed long
and my hips were wide and my hands were free
My hair was wild and my eyes
dared you.
I don't remember, but you do.

Hey, remember that time
when I broke the night
I drowned the sun, I shone so bright
and my skin would glow and my smile would shine
All eyes on me, on this beauty true
I don't remember, but you do.

It never happened!
You were dreaming, you see
You're my friend, you invent the best in me
I'm a canker, a husk, a weight on your feet
I'm a distant shadow of all you do
How am I anything compared to you?

...It needs work, and I both like and hate the third line of each stanza which throws off the rhyme (but I tend to detest my rhyming poems), but I needed to say the things that all girl friends say to each other: that cycle of envy and self-deprecation into which we all seem to trap ourselves. It's ridiculous, ladies.
