Twirls in her hand
Rain-spattered shoes
Dance

Wind tickles through curls thick with
raindrops
on cold-fingered air
Breathing in wet leaves
and damp socks
and the poetry on her tongue

Watching a huddled lump scurry past
In a parka, head ducked
Dodging puddles as he goes
Groaning over wet books
Squinting against the wind

Cold seeps between her lips
she smiles
Feeling water on her eyelids

They think she's crazy
Singing and giggling alone
That umbrella twirling
her skin pale chill tingling alive

Inside, to showers
and sweaters
and slippers and
hot cocoa.

(Wet clothes
Drip in the closet.)
